About Us

Real Ales : Traditional Pub Food : Café Menu : Secluded Garden

A rural Free House, family owned and run by husband and wife team, Colin and Amanda O’Neill

The 1760’s Grade II listed building provides a friendly and welcoming environment and we place an emphasis on relaxed eating and drinking. We are pleased to have created a comfortable and sociable space.

Most of our food is freshly prepared and cooked from scratch by Amanda and her small team, sourcing local ingredients where possible. Our carefully chosen menu reflects seasonality and changes regularly and we try to offer something for everyone, including small plate options for smaller appetites and children. We can also cater for most dietary requirements.

Our coffee is provided by Frank & Earnest (hand-roasted in Bury St Edmunds) and brewed in our San Remo Italian coffee machine. We also have a selection of fabulous Jing teas.

We offer good beers, including Lord Conrad’s (brewed in the village), Adnams Beers and Blackshore Stout. We have red, white, rose and sparkling wines, all by the glass or bottle, and our soft drinks Folkington's Elderflower Bubbly. We have an ever-growing selection of Gin and other spirits.

The Black Horse is family and dog-friendly and have a lovely garden backing onto a meadow and woodland, creating a peaceful environment in which to sit (though we have some rowdy rooks in the treetops!)
